Why I Wrote It

Twelve years seeing the part owners usually do not see.

I spent twelve years working hands-on as an Animal Care Technician in a high-end dog daycare and boarding facility. That meant seeing the everyday details behind the front desk: group play, rest, feeding, medications, cleaning, dog movement, overnight routines, and what happens when a dog is stressed, sick, injured, or simply not a good fit for the program.

The goal of these guides is not to tell you that daycare or boarding is good or bad. It is to help you ask better questions, understand the answers, and choose care that fits your dog.

— Chris Smith, Mountain Dog Enterprises

01Look past the lobby.

A beautiful building does not tell you how dogs are supervised, rested, moved, or handled.

02Ask for specifics.

Clear examples are more useful than labels such as “luxury,” “cage-free,” or “all-day play.”

03Fit matters.

The right service is the one that can meet your dog’s actual needs — not the one with the longest activity list.
